during pregnancy begins after the first trimester.
Pre-natal massage is both soothing & therapeutic bodywork
which focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be.
This
massage is done in different positions that allow the mother
to be comfortable with her changing body. We have
special adaptive cushions that allow the mother to lie on
her stomach supporting her body by the pelvis and breast
bone which greatly relieves the constant pressure on the
back (much more comfortable than it sounds). After
the first 22 weeks of pregnancy, lying flat on your back
can cause pressure on deep blood vessels. These cushions
help to counterbalance this tendency. A study done
by Dr. Tiffany Field at the University of Miami School of
Medicine showed that massage actually reduces stress hormones
in the body. Touch is vital to the mother's physical
and emotional well-being. Benefits include: relaxation,
decreased insomnia, stress relief on weight-bearing joints,
